The post Guinness Stout Chocolate Layer Cake appeared first on Noble Pig.
]]>I give all the credit for this Guinness stout chocolate layer cake to a blend of the best ingredients: the creamy and malty richness of Guinness, the depth of dark chocolate and cocoa, and the tangy sharpness of buttermilk. I find that each ingredient really adds to the cake’s overall taste and texture. It’s truly a unique treat!
One of the reasons I love baking with Guinness has to do with how the carbonation creates this light and fluffy texture in baked goods. The carbon dioxide creates air pockets in the batter, resulting in a tender crumb that is moist and light.
I generally add Guinness to recipes when I’m looking to create a rich and complex flavor. This works for not only baked goods, but savory dishes like stews, braises, and sauces. Guinness helps tenderize meat and adds depth to desserts with chocolate. I encourage you to try some other recipes I’ve made with Guinness over the years like my chocolate Guinness doughnuts or my Guinness braised brisket. I use Guinness in my beef Irish stew just like I do in my Guinness sundae recipe and my Guinness stout ginger cake.

The icing recipe and instructions for this Guinness stout chocolate layer cake are at the end of this recipe, but require a 4-hour lead time. I recommend beginning with the icing so it’s ready at the end of the baking process to use. It’s worth reading through the whole recipe before beginning to bake this Guinness stout chocolate layer cake.

]]>This tuna casserole is just how my dad made it, with lots of pantry staples, so it’s a very old-timey type of recipe. Regardless, I love it just the same and it just so nostalgic in all the best ways.
I feel as if a can of tuna is underrated these days, but I love how versatile it can be. I am a big fan of tuna sandwiches and adding a can of tuna into a salad. I’ll never get over it.
If you are also “team tuna”, you have to give my open-faced tuna melts a try. They are without a doubt, one of the best tuna sandwiches you will ever have!

]]>I love the stuffed cabbage rolls I grew up eating. However, the daunting task of making them meant that people only prepared them during the holidays or for other special events.
I know for some, the scent of boiled cabbage is also not a fond memory. Luckily, these unstuffed cabbage rolls are a game changer when it comes to ease of preparation.
People often make traditional cabbage rolls and other unstuffed versions with lots of sweeter elements. I have purposefully kept this savory unstuffed cabbage rolls recipe sugar free, making it a great option for a healthy weeknight meal.
If you’re interested in a traditional cabbage roll recipe, make sure to try my sweet and sour cabbage rolls. They are a fun take on the Polish versions I grew up eating.

]]>While I enjoy making this Bailey’s Irish Cream Bundt cake for St. Patrick’s Day, it’s also a welcome dessert anytime of year. I like to think of this Bundt dessert as a well-deserved celebration cake for lots and lots of occasions.
I’ve made this Irish cream cake for birthdays, New Year’s Eve, weekend gatherings and so many other times just for fun.
One of my favorite things about this cake is not only how easy it is to make, but how flavorful it tastes. This dessert truly is the perfect ending to a savory meal.
Reader SCdawg says …“This recipe is to die for!!! Made it in mini Bundt pans and used Irish whiskey instead of water. I only wish I’d found it sooner!!! I bake a lot…and send extras to my hubby’s coworkers. This was the first time he didn’t share with them LOL! SO good!!!”
I’ve always considered this Bailey’s Irish cream cake an example of a quintessential celebratory dessert. Similarly, my RumChata Bundt cake recipe and my Limoncello lemon syrup cake are also just as festive. Both cakes effortlessly also feel like a party is in the works.

This cake always flips out of the pan so easily, especially if you’ve taken care to grease and flour your pan properly.

As far as using the right mixer, this cake works well with either a stand mixer or a hand-held mixer. When a cake is completely from scratch, I always recommend using a stand mixer to mix the ingredients.
I can almost guarantee this will be one of the tastiest cakes you will make this year!

]]>This is my take on a buttery cake that adds fresh lemon flavor and juicy blueberries to the batter and glaze on top. It’s my absolute favorite when it comes to a blueberry lemon cake dessert.
I really am a sucker for an unfussy cake like this one. It’s the kind of cake I can whip up in an hour or less without any extra trips to the grocery store. However, it’s special enough to serve to guests, but rustic enough to not need a special occasion.
This fragrant lemon cake — scattered and glazed with juicy blueberries inside and out — is the perfect uncomplicated cake. Make it for a last-minute spring dinner party or to snack on with afternoon coffee.
If you’re like me, you’re always up for a good lemon-blueberry dessert. When you have a chance, I hope you’ll also try my lemon cornmeal cake that’s crowned with a mound of blueberry topping. Or make my blueberry streusel bars with lemon cream filling. And while my blueberry-lime pound cake uses a different citrus flavor, it’s every bit as delicious.

]]>Reader Ellie says …“This is the second year in a row – and 5th time I’ve made this recipe. It has disappeared EVERY SINGLE TIME! The funniest was when my friend actually grabbed the foil out of my hand, before I could toss it, so she could finish licking the foil of the caramelized glaze. This recipe is so stinking awesome – and NO MUSTARD REQUIRED!!! Thank you from one happy Irish chick.”
If corned beef is not your thing for St. Patrick’s Day, I highly recommend my beef Irish stew, it’s so good! Or my take on Guinness braised brisket. They are both a delicious alternative to corned beef and the meat is available year round.

]]>The post Key Lime Pie appeared first on Noble Pig.
]]>This is my go-to key lime pie recipe, the one I’ve been making for years and years. This pie is a refreshing departure from all the “heavier” desserts I typically make over the winter months.
Roughly a decade ago, I did my own personal research on key lime pie in the Florida Keys, the birthplace of this iconic dessert. I tasted a lot of key lime pie, many on sticks and some in jars drenched in syrup. I’ve sampled it with meringue and sans meringue and even explored some gluten-free versions.
I tried key lime pie in every conceivable manner it was offered. And while each variation had its unique flavor and texture, it helped me settle on this easy-to-make-at-home key lime pie recipe.
If you love the flavor of key lime in dessert, you should also try my key lime cupcakes – topped with a zingy cream cheese frosting. They hold no punches when it comes to flavor. I also urge you to try a favorite Brazilian cocktail I’ve enjoyed tinkering with. My key lime caipirinhas are deliciously refreshing and effortlessly easy to drink.

Because key limes are considerably smaller and firmer than regular limes, I’ve found that attempting to juice them with a traditional citrus juicer is nearly impossible. However, I’ve found a perfect solution—a potato ricer!
Simply slice the tiny limes in half, load several halves into the ricer at once, and squeeze away. It’s so much easier this way!

]]>“Can you put frozen salmon in an fryer?” …I get asked that a lot. And the answer is a resounding yes! When making air fryer frozen salmon compared to fresh, the only big difference is the longer cooking time. Additionally, with frozen salmon, I do refrain from basting until it has been partly air fried as well.
The fresh lemon, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper are the perfect complement to the salmon. Moreover, the deeply colored paprika turns a boring looking piece of salmon into a visual feast of the eyes.
Whether I’m serving guests or making myself lunch or dinner, this air fryer frozen salmon recipe is something I make again and again!
If you love the idea of making salmon in the air fryer, you should also try my original recipe for air fryer salmon (if you have fresh salmon -not frozen) and my air fryer maple glazed salmon (if you prefer something with a marinade). Both are amazing!

]]>The post Cheeseburger Quiche appeared first on Noble Pig.
]]>I wanted this quiche to capture the precise flavor of a bacon cheeseburger, but wasn’t really sure if that was possible using a quiche as a guide. I’ve used a crust to mimic the burger buns and topped it with a thick layer of two types of cheese. In the center, the combination of ground beef and bacon forms “the burger“. However, what makes it most authentic-tasting is my last minute addition of dill pickle relish. Specifically, the relish gives it the “cheeseburger-esque” taste I was looking for. Omitting it, in my opinion, means missing out on a significant flavor opportunity.
The first bite of this quiche surprised me. I’m seeing quiche, but I’m tasting a burger. You’ll get it once you taste it for yourself.
Have a family member that will not eat quiche? Surprise them with this cheeseburger version. I think they’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Do you love the idea of a cheeseburger morphed into a completely different meal? If yes, give my cheeseburger mac and cheese, my bacon cheeseburger soup or bacon cheeseburger salad a try!

]]>If I ever need a reason to satisfy a craving for a breakfast-dessert fusion, these chocolate pancakes are it! It’s tough enough for me to turn down a stack of pancakes, but when they’re chocolate, I can’t resist diving right in for a taste.
These pancakes are light, fluffy and made with ingredients you probably already have on hand right now.

My goal was to create a pancake recipe that you could effortlessly scale up, whether you’re doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling it. I know calculating the ingredients for a family and friends on weekend mornings can be a headache! However, I’ve simplified it for you. The original recipe serves about 3 people. To adjust the serving size, hover over the “serving” number on the recipe card below. This will allow you to increase the number of pancakes you want to make.
It’s always nice to have something savory to serve with chocolate pancakes. This overnight breakfast casserole recipe, filled with bacon and cheese is one of my favorites. Breakfast home fries would also go well here, or even a deliciously, cheesy oven omelet.
