Simple Strawberry Sauce Ingredients
These three simple ingredients work harmoniously together, creating a strawberry sauce that is bursting with fresh flavors, and a balance of sweetness and tartness, with a smooth texture.
- Fresh Strawberries:
- Key ingredient for strawberry sauce, providing the vibrant flavor and natural sweetness.
- Choose ripe and juicy strawberries for the best results.
- Wash and hull the strawberries before using them in the sauce.
- Granulated Sugar:
- Adds sweetness to the strawberry sauce, balancing the natural tartness of the berries.
- The amount of sugar can be adjusted to personal preference or depending on the sweetness of the strawberries.
- Helps create a thick and syrupy consistency in the sauce.
- Fresh Lemon Juice:
- Enhances the flavor of the strawberries by adding a tangy and bright element.
- Balances the sweetness of the sauce.
- The acidity in the lemon juice also helps to preserve the bright red color of the strawberries.
- Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best taste.
Strawberry Sauce Recipe Notes
- Measurement and Preparation:
- 3 cups of chopped strawberries is approximately 1 lb in weight.
- This recipe is ideal for using up leftover strawberries that may be past their prime, as long as there are no signs of mold.
- If your strawberries have a white appearance, hull them before using.
- Cooking Process:
- No water needs to be added to the sauce since the strawberries will release enough juice when heated.
- The sauce will reduce by around two-thirds as it cooks down.
- If you don’t have a food processor, you can use an immersion blender or a regular blender as alternatives.
- Blending the strawberries is optional; you can skip this step if you prefer a textured sauce.
- Variations and Storage:
- After the sauce has cooled, you can add freshly chopped uncooked strawberries to make glazed strawberries.
- Strawberry sauce will naturally thicken when refrigerated. If it becomes too thick, you can add a teaspoon of cold water to thin it out.
- Leftover strawberry sauce can be stored in an airtight jar or container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
