Cranberry-Apple Cobbler takes full advantage of in season, fall fruit. Sweet apples and tart cranberries make a layer of undeniably juicy and festive looking fruit. However, it’s the buttery topping that puts it all over the top!
We all love apple pie, but it’s fun to change it up. This cranberry cobbler dessert is a festive, fuss-free ending to a special meal. The bursting cranberries oozing over the sides of the dish says it all.
If you have an aversion to pumpkin desserts, this would be a great ending to your Thanksgiving meal. The cobbler is sweet and tart, with a noticeable variance in texture.
This is one dessert you need to try for yourself, the apple-cranberry combo is one you’ll be pleasantly surprised with.
Ingredients Needed for Cranberry Apple Cobbler
Pantry Ingredients
granulated sugar – used in two different parts of the recipe
walnuts – make sure they are fresh
golden raisins – these are so much better than regular raisins
all-purpose flour- I have never substituted any other type of flour in this recipe
vanilla extract – pure is best
salt – use table salt here
confectioners’ sugar – also known as powdered sugar
Fresh Ingredients
apples – Granny Smith are preferred, but Jonathan, Rome Beauty and York Imperial also work well
cranberries – these need to be fresh
eggs – size large
butter – for baked goods I always prefer using Kerrygold brand butter
orange zest – don’t leave this out, it really brightens the flavors
How To Make Cranberry Apple Cobbler
Step one:Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step two:In a large bowl, toss together sliced apples, cranberries, 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar, walnuts and golden raisins.
Step three:Butter four (5-inch) quiche dishes or one 8 x 8 baking dish. Spoon apple mixture evenly into prepared dishes.
Step four:For the topping, combine eggs, all-purpose flour, butter, the remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, orange zest, vanilla extract and salt. Stir with a fork until smooth. Spread the topping evenly over the fruit mixture.
Step five:Bake about 30 minutes, until topping is golden and fruit is tender. Cool slightly on a wire rack. Sift powdered sugar over the tops. Serve warm.
What Makes A Cobbler A Cobbler?
A cobbler is associated with a fruit dessert that has a biscuit-like topping.
A cobbler’s crust does not have a smooth top like a pie would, however, the topping is “cobbled” and coarse. It is spooned over the fruit filling and baked.
As you can see here the biscuit-style topping has been spooned over the fruit mixture. It does not have to completely cover the fruit.
While not shown, this is amazing with both a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream…or both.

These apple cranberry desserts look delicious and easy to prepare! We just had baked Granny Smith apples for dessert last evening, and while those were very tasty, they were missing something and I think it is the batter topping that this dessert provides. I wish this entry had been a day earlier! But we will be using this recipe next time we have apples and cranberries on hand. More Halloween? You are something else with all these cute decorations. Do you have Halloween string lights outside your home too? I bet you do.
note to myself: QUIT reading this blog the very first thing in the morning with coffee! Cathy, I want some. Right now. This just looks amazingly delicious. My daughter’s coming in this weekend from Chicago, these would be such perfect treats. Yum. And easy to make, too.
These are cute little numbers. I love the little dishes. Heck, I love anything that’s “little”!
I always have an abundance of Thanksgiving desserts. I figure that just because I love pumpkin pie doesn’t mean everyone else does. And I want them not to. You guys can love the cake, I’ll keep the pumpkin pie!
I was over at Twisted Fencepost reading her Halloween story and thought I would go visit some of the contributors to the story, so here I am. I am enjoying my visit to your blog. The cobbler sounds and looks wonderful, I think I’ll have to give it a try.
There is NOTHING in that dish that I don’t like. And, because it’s full of fruits and fabulous fiber, I would totally convince myself that it’s healthfood (isn’t it?).
PS – I channeled you last night, did you get a shiver? I went to pick up cat food and came back with $80 of MORE Hallowe’en decorations for an already decked out house. Gotta love this time of year…..
OMG those look fabulous. I will have to make them soon. I LOVE apples and cranberries … and walnuts … oh my I love it all. I’m thinking anyone would love these and I’m digging that you can do them as individual treats.
This dessert looks absolutely divine, but my family would string me up if I served anything other than my pumpkin pie. I think it would make a lovely Christmas dessert though. đŸ˜‰
You had me at cranberries. I’m kind of glad we’re not neighbors. No offense, I just think you’d get sick of me sitting on your front porch with drool hanging off myself.
I want to go to your house for dinner every day, especially during fall.
One of the sad things about getting your posts by email is that while I get to read them with the frequency you write them, and therefore salivate at every recipe post… the problem is that I get all the benefits without the easy chance to come over and thank you for putting such fantabulous stuff out there. Thank you, I love your blog!
The cobblers look delicious. I have tons of apples here that I picked up when I went to the mountains this weekend. I’ve made two apple pies and am searching for more apple recipes….thanks!
Anyone with an aversion to desserts just doesn’t deserve one of these! Just kidding….that’s just about everyone in my family, but me! THese are gorgeous. I need to go apple picking.
Wow, the photos here are amazing! When I first saw that baked goodie, I thought it was a cookie on top! This looks terrific and would be devoured by my spouse in, let’s say, 12 seconds!
