Syrahalicious

2003 Cooper-Garrod Santa Cruz Mountains Finley Vineyard Syrah $24 Syrah, one of my favorite, favorite wines.  Same grape variety as Shiraz in Australia.  It’s rare to come across a Syrah that is a total disappointment.  This one is no different. Syrah is known for its fruit and peppery flavors.  This particular wine was neither super fruity nor super spicy but…

10 Things You Should Know Before Your Next Trip to the Gynecologist

Being the wife of an OB/GYN I’ve heard some things. Way too many things…some sad, some happy and a boatload of really weird, bizarre and wacky, gross, disgusting things. Many of which I absolutely would NEVER repeat.  You would never believe me anyway. But from my unique perspective I feel I have some invaluable information to pass on to the…

Booger Assault

A constant battle I’m having with my kids is teaching them to not interrupt adults when they are talking.  Regardless of my constant reminding, threatening and outright pitiful begging of them not to compulsively bust into every conversation, they still consistently disregard my requests. I’m pretty sure this a universal topic among parents EVERYWHERE and believe me I would welcome any advice to help…

The Best Lemon Squares

Are these scrumptious looking or what?  These lemon squares are the perfect balance of sweet and sour.  They are so addicting that I am unable to rest until they have all been devoured.  It’s sad but true. I’ve been making these lemon delights since I was a young girl.  I don’t even know where the original recipe originated from; it’s…

Get This Wine…before it’s gone!!

What you have all been waiting for. Some ranting about wine. Yes, I will post here about wine. It’s my “thang”. My life-line. My bread and budda. My shuga-booga. Well, not really. BUT, even though I have my fancy-schmancy wine education to back up my intoxicating, wine-related ramblings;I tend to be irreverent about things, even the blessed wine. I’m sorry….

Conversation with a Waitress

Setting the scene:  On a recent vacation we decided to take the hooligans to an upscale establishment for dinner.  We prepped them all day long on the rigors of Fancy Restaurant 101; how to act, how to address the server when spoken to and how to use only their quietest voices. No stone was left unturned.  Every possible scenario was…

Hooray for 100 Days of School!

You did it! 100 days of Kindergarten! You have grown and learned so much and I am very proud. To celebrate we made 100 cookies. And ate them at the 100’s Day Buffet. We put together a collection of 100 Pokeman cards. We made 100’s Day hats and wore them at the 100’s Day parade.  You are 100 days smarter…

HI! I’M CATHY.

Hi! I’m Cathy. I’ve escaped from a peculiar Northern California college town that built an underground tunnel to save toads from the potentials of vehicular frog-slaughter. I now live in Mcminnville, Oregon where my husband and I have planted a vineyard, started a winery and make wine in the heart of Oregon wine country. I love mayonnaise, butter and Jewish men. Barry, Jerry and Larry come to mind. Gluttony is my sin of choice. Welcome to my weird and wonderful world.
