Happy New Year everyone!! No one’s on a diet are they? Or wait…a healthier eating plan? Just eat smaller portions and eat what you love…you’ll do great! I promise.
I had these frozen pretzels in my freezer, the typical ones you find in your grocer’s frozen aisle. I felt these needed a better plan than the whole just “dipping into mustard” scenario.
I let the pretzels thaw out and sliced them in half with my bread knife. I precooked my bacon in the oven and layered it on the bottom half of the pretzel slices. I topped the bacon with Havarti cheese slices, but you can choose any kind of cheese you like. Then popped them in a nonstick skillet with a little butter to melt the cheese and warm the bacon through.
Simple and exquisite. And no one will complain when you pull out a tray of these.
These are perfect for lazy Sunday’s watching the game! Make them soon.
Bacon-Pretzel Grilled Cheese
Ingredients
- 6 frozen pretzels, thawed and sliced
- 3/4 pound bacon, cooked
- 6 slices Havarti or other cheese
- 2 Tablespoons butter
Directions
- Place bacon on the bottom half of the pretzel slices. Top with cheese and pretzel tops. Brush tops of pretzels with water and sprinkle with pretzel salt (comes in the pretzel box, just not too much).
- Melt butter in nonstick skillet and warm until cheese is melted and bacon is warmed through (you could also just pop them in the oven to melt the cheese).
Cheesy goodness.

This looks divine. But I saw something the other day that struck me as I thought about this but had not tried yet. I make my own pastrami and wondered about using pork. Some restaurant has and I think the pork pastrami would be perfect for these pretzel buns.
