Protein Rich Strawberry Banana Cheesecake Smoothie
Today is the first day of school for my kids. I have a sophomore and a senior this year. Where has the time gone? I’m serious! It’s as if the days have evaporated into thin air.
When I started this blog my youngest son was in kindergarten and today he is starting 10th grade. This morning was my oldest’s last, first day of school breakfast (that I will make), the last, first day of school picture (that I will take), the last, first day of school everything. Sigh.
Yep, I’m feeling totally sentimental about it all. Next fall he will be off to college and trust me this kid is ready to fly. He could go to college now and be totally fine, but I’m glad we have one more year.
One more year of him and me enjoying this Protein Rich Strawberry Banana Cheesecake Smoothie and a few more weekends of sharing this Maple Bacon Waffle Bread Pudding and maybe I’ll be ready to let go. We’ll see.
This recipe calls for full fat 4 percent cottage cheese and I hope you use it.
Remember, full fat dairy is an extremely satiating nutrient. It fills you up, and slows down the release of sugars into your bloodstream, which in turn helps prevent you from overeating.
Also, full-fat dairy tends to contain less sugar than it’s low-fat counterparts. Why?
When food manufacturers remove fat from foods (like dairy fat from ice cream), they add in extra sugar to keep you hooked.
Another reason I only buy whole milk around here. And let’s not forget how good full-fat anything tastes. It’s a win-win!
There are so many awesome smoothies you can make. In fact, try a new one every week for variety. One of my favorites is this Cranberry-Vanilla-Cinnamon Smoothie. It tastes just like Christmas. This Blackberry Lime Smoothie sounds very refreshing! However, this Orange Watermelon Sunshine Smoothie would get me right out of bed in the morning. A Green Zinger Smoothie might be just what you need after a weekend or a vacation of imbibing.
Eight years ago I made this Antipasto Pasta Salad with a Red Wine Vinaigrette. It is perfect for tailgating, fall gatherings, summer parties or whatever floats your boat.
