Hi friends, new feature on the blog today. Beauty products I am currently loving!
Even though I spend most of my days inside the kitchen cooking up all kinds of foods in my pajamas or out in the vineyard getting hot, sweaty and very dirty, there are times I need to leave the house and look more presentable. Imagine that.
I’m still a girl at heart who gets excited over lipstick, nail polish, mascara and shampoo…gah I love new shampoo (and conditioner). I have cabinets and drawers full of lotions and creams and the shower shelf is bursting with bottles of things that promise to give my hair more volume (I should post a picture).
I try all kinds of products and have lots of interesting things sent to me, so why not share what I love with all of you?! I live far away from fancy department stores, so most of what I use can be found at drugstores or Amazon. In fact, I’ve found a lot of beauty products are cheaper at Amazon, and with Amazon Prime, it just makes it so easy to order from there.
Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Ageless Firming Body Lotion – 8 oz tube $10-$8
Here’s the thing, I don’t believe any lotion can really “firm up your body” to the point you will really notice a difference. In my experience, that’s not reality. Let’s face it, after your 20’s and early 30’s and kids, the skin changes. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just different. However, the skin must be taken care of and protected. I have found other lotions go on and just absorb quickly, without feeling very luxurious.
This however, REALLY feels different. It’s extremely creamy and soothing. You can tell it has additives that other “regular lotions” do not. It really sets itself apart from the others at this price point. So, in that sense I think the firming lotions likely add some extra goodies, leaving your skin feeling extra silky.
In fact, if you’ve ever been through the TSA line at the airport and they swab your hands for gun powder or whatever it is they are checking for? Well, this lotion seems to set off their little machine. They always ask (after they give me the full body pat down) if I am wearing really high quality lotion, because that will often make the machine beep with a false positive. So, there you go, tested by the TSA…this is good stuff. Ha. Just don’t wear it to the airport. Maybe it’s the shiitake mushroom complex and wheat proteins in here?
Anyway, I love it. If you try it, let me know what you think. In fact, I am going to go slather some on now.
Revlon Lash Potion Volume & Length Mascara by Grow Lucious, Blackened Brown $5-$10
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with mascara. I do not have long, thick, gorgeous eyelashes, they are just regular, like most of the world. So when I use mascara, I want it to do something. But it never really does and is often pretty disappointing. However, this particular mascara has a really fluffy brush and extra bristles that coat your lashes well. In fact, more than one swipe is almost too much. Apparently it’s inky pigment (I prefer blackened brown) has strengthening proteins. I didn’t even know I needed them. But really, this is a good one. Best one I’ve used in a while.
Concealer, I’ve always needed it. Since I was a kid I’ve always had some sort of dark circles under my eyes, regardless of how much sleep I’m getting. I remember a dermatologist telling me it was hereditary or allergies or that they’ll go away? Bottom line, I’m always looking for a new, fabulous concealer to go on smoothly and do the job.
What I like about this particular concealer is the inclusion of light-reflective particles to help make dark circles disappear. So far so good! It also has cucumber extract, which is supposed to soothe puffiness, however I don’t have puffy under eyes so I can’t comment on that. I especially love the metal applicator tip, it stays cool and helps the concealer glide right on.
Blotchy skin, that is me. I never had this condition until my late thirties. I don’t have any dark spots on my face, but red blotchiness…yes. All the time. I’m always trying different toners and this one has done really well. Over time it’s fading the redness. It uses soy as a skin-brightener along with Vitamin A. It claims to fade dark spots too, but as I mentioned I don’t have any. There are no miracles, but I do like this product.
RoC Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Daily Moisturizer, 1.7 oz $15-20
I hope all of your daily moisturizer’s have sunscreen or you apply sunblock daily to your face. This is your best defense to not only skin cancer, but for aging; wrinkles, discoloration etc.
It has been hard for me to find a new moisturizer I am in love with, I’m picky, but refuse to spend $120 for a tiny little tub of failed promises. With my last moisturizer, my nose was still sloughing off dry skin after a few hours. With this new one, the dryness is gone and I love that. I wish it was fragrance free, but other than that I love putting it on my face every morning. I will definitely buy it again.
Is it only me or does everyone else have to chase their family around in order to get them to put on sunscreen? It makes me crazy. All three of the males in my household hate wearing it, complaining constantly about how thick, horrible and greasy it is. Hello, people…cancer? You need it!
Anyway, I thought I would try something new brand on our recent vacation and guess what…they loved. It melts into the skin really quickly and does not leave you all shiny and greased up. It is not a waterproof formula, but it’s great for hiking around and doing your daily activities. It’s always in my purse now.
I hope you enjoyed this and let me know if you try anything. I’m curious to hear how you like any of these products.
