Erika says
Gosh, I’m not sure. My kids used to hate the smoothies I made at home, but then we found a little smoothie place that they love. Go figure. Turns out, they don’t like yogurt in their smoothies, and I always put yogurt in their smoothies. Now if I make them with just fruit and ice, they will suck them down like there is no tomorrow.
But my blender is not cut out for such frequent smoothie-making, and I worry that it’s going to blow if I make too many more.
I think their favorite is a peach-raspberry smoothie. I have raspberries in the freezer, and I use peaches that I canned myself. A little of the peach syrup sweetens the whole thing perfectly.

We make smoothies ALL the time! I think its a great way to get more fruit/milk and even a few veggies in the kids. Your cranberry/vanilla/cinnamon recipe looks great! Not like anything we’ve done before. I think I would probably sub the white sugar for a less processed choice in our case, like honey, maple syrup or coconut sugar, since all those have trace minerals. Other than that, we are so on it!

ICE Cream! yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avocado-coconut ice cream (adapted from Absolutely Avocadoes, by Gabi Dalkin)
Ingredients:
2 Haas avocadoes
1 (14-ounce) can coconut milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 teaspoon lime zest
1/2 cup coconut chips
Method:
Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh into a blender or food processor. Add the coconut milk, heavy cream, and sugar. Blend on low until completely smooth, about 2 minutes. Stir in the lime juice and zest.
Transfer the mixture to an ice cream machine, and churn according to the manufacturer’s directions. Cover and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving, so the ice cream can become more firm.
Meanwhile, add the coconut flakes to a dry skillet heated to medium. Cook the coconut while frequently stirring until the edges begin to turn brown, about 2 minutes. (Keep a close eye on the coconut, as you don’t want it to burn.) Remove immediately from the heat. Allow it to cool and then sprinkle over the ice cream for serving.

For starters, I would make a mango lassi in the main blender as a treat for my girlfriend. Probably go with slightly healthier options in the individual size mixer. Kale, apple, maybe a little banana and honey to stave off the winter lulls.
The real goal is to use some of the fresh coco pods I have from a local research greenhouse. I am growing a few trees myself and want to use the fresh roasted seeds that are extra with my cinnamon tree to make the ultimate chocolate concoctions. Too many ideas to list them all here and a lot of pure experimentation to be done.
Always loved the blog but never posted. Thanks for years of great ideas and a continued effort to keep us all cooking.

Yogurt, almond milk, frozen bananas, frozen blueberries, etc.
Kindler Stout says
When I’m making juice, a little celery does wonders to apple juice. For potlucks I often blend (or simply mash) bananas and mix in real yogurt and any kind of ‘berry’ I have in the freezer–blueberries, or the tiny persimmons from the only tree I planted that made it (Ashland, Oregon). I never have any trouble eating the rest, myself, if there is any left. But I never thought of this as a smoothie! Why not? Frozen blueberries with bananas and unsweetened yogurt–the banana will make anything sweet! As far as I’m concerned, the fewer ingredients, the better. Kindler
Lynn Bisset says
I have never really done smoothies as it always seemed to be too much trouble. But I would love to start with a proper machine and the just posted cranberry vanilla cinnamon smoothie. I have frozen cranberries in my freezer!
