My kitchen is the heart of my home. It’s where we gather, congregate, laugh and of course eat wonderful meals together. We share our days and nights here, our stories and ideas. And regardless of how large the house is, everyone crams themselves into the kitchen, making it the epicenter of my home.
And if my kitchen proper is the epicenter, then my kitchen island is without a doubt the command-and-control center everyone gravitates towards. It is where the kids do their homework, we eat our breakfast and share informal family meals. It’s where science fair projects have been created and book reports are written. A place to serve appetizers during parties and roll out pizza dough for dinner.
Stadium-like seating allows a viewing place for family and guests to take part in the food prep and experience what is really happening in the kitchen. The island is my cooking stage and I love the versatility it offers. Trust me, it’s also the catch-all for mail, empty lunch boxes and misplaced items, but the pros of having a well-designed island far outweighs the cons. I couldn’t live without it.
As you can see, I also have a secondary island in my kitchen. The larger one (15 x 3) creates an informal separation of the great room and kitchen. Its large size helps balance the interior space where the kitchen and great room share an open room. The smaller, middle island (4 x 3) is a great prep area. Both are equipped with custom storage, electrical outlets and a few Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances I will show you throughout this post.
Here is another angle of the kitchen. The large aisle space allows for several “chefs” to tackle different cooking projects at once. The ebb and flow of this well-designed space is priceless. It influences the fun and creativeness we have in the kitchen as a family because there is room for everyone to work together.
Collectively I have nine Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances in my home. Which one is my favorite? It’s a tough question because each one of them plays into my day to day life so differently.
There is no doubt the Sub-Zero PRO 48 Refrigerator is one of the most used appliances in my kitchen. It is referred to as a “masterpiece of preservation”. Its dual refrigeration technology keeps food fresh longer. Thanks to its two built-in compressors, there is no odor transfer from the refrigerator to the freezer. The veggies in my crisper seem to have an endless life span, a good thing when you live out in the country and aren’t exactly close to the grocery store.
It goes without mention this 800-pound beauty is sleek and gorgeous, a true focal point in my home.
However, while I love my refrigerator/freezer with all my heart, my Wolf 48″ Dual Fuel Range is my absolute favorite-favorite appliance in my collection. I had wanted this range for as long as I can remember and still can’t believe I get to cook on it every single day.
As you can see, my range has four burners. Covered on top are an infrared charbroiler and steel griddle, which we use for everything. Grilling steaks, chicken and veggies on the charbroiler and making pancakes and burgers on the griddle couldn’t be easier. Since we live in the Pacific Northwest, the indoor charbroiler has been a treat. Grilling outside in the winter rain is now a thing of the past…thank goodness.
Who doesn’t recognize or appreciate the iconic red knobs or classic cobalt blue interiors of the Wolf ranges? Sub-Zero and Wolf have led the pack when it comes to innovative and beautiful kitchen design for more than 65 years.
The Wolf Dual Convection Oven has 10 cooking modes. Roasted leg of lamb and apple pie are not cooked under the same mode. Instead, the range delivers even airflow and temperature throughout the cooking process. Dual fans and multiple heating elements work according to the modes chosen. Three baking sheets of cookies are made without having to rotate them around the oven for even cooking. As a food blogger, I couldn’t be happier about what I am able to accomplish with this range. Foods are browned properly and cooked to perfection. Overall, it has met all of my expectations.
The halogen oven lights make it easy to see what’s going on inside without having to open the doors and lose heat.
With all the beauty found in these appliances, I am easily inspired to create, cook and serve delicious and memorable meals to friends and family. I truly believe the beauty of well-designed objects and spaces have a positive affect on my life. I always have a smile on my face when I head into this kitchen. It fits my needs perfectly.
With the amount of high temperature cooking I do, especially with the charbroiler, a good ventilation system is a necessity. The powerful Wolf Pro Series Hood Liner keeps residual smoke and steam out of the kitchen and remains hidden from view with a custom exterior treatment surrounding it.
Here’s something I’m really excited to show you, the Wolf Warming Drawer. You barely notice it since the electronic controls are hidden inside and the drawer itself sits in between my other drawers.
If you are dreaming about redesigning your kitchen, don’t think twice about adding this to your list. I use the warming drawer several times a week and it especially comes in handy when entertaining.
It’s perfect if you have family members who work late or eat at different times because of after-school activities or events. No more cold dinners or extra work of heating them up.
Here is a look at the inside of the warming drawer. Superior air control keeps moist foods moist and crisp foods crisp. It’s quite large so you can fit a lot of prepared. This is useful when the main course is still cooking, but your side dishes are finished. There is enough space to keep my dishes warm on the upper rack.
I can’t help but think how nice this appliance would be in the master suite bathroom, keeping towels warm during the winter months…hmmm.
As a winemaker, undercounter wine refrigeration in my kitchen is a must. Well, even if I wasn’t a winemaker, I would still want this. The Sub-Zero Wine Storage unit sits in my larger kitchen island. It holds 46 bottles of wine and has two precisely maintained temperature zones. Because of these zones, I am able to store red and white wines together in the same refrigeration unit. A very convenient option.
Sub-Zero’s undercounter wine refrigeration integrates perfectly in my kitchen. It’s beautifully designed and looks stunning among the other appliances. Most importantly, the unit itself is extremely quiet. In fact, we never hear it. You have no idea how important the silence is until you’ve had a wine fridge that runs louder than a car. Been there, done that.
And wine is always chilled and ready to go, what more could I ask for.
Another shot of my center island. The sink with the garbage disposal is the perfect prep area for chopping veggies. But, this island is also home to a favored appliance, the Wolf Steamer Cooktop.
By far it’s the coolest “extra” in my kitchen. At first I didn’t know if it was something I would really use. Wow, what was I thinking! I use it to proof dough, defrost foods quickly, steam crab and lobster, I keep cooked pasta warm and steam buns for a hot dog bar, make rice and steam veggies. I have found its uses to be endless.
The steamer comes to boiling temperature very quickly with a range of temps available to hold food. A button easily drains the water. Solid and perforated inserts are easily removed and cleaned.
While Wolf has been a premier maker of ranges, ovens, cooktops and grills for years, it is obvious their expanded product lines are well thought out. I am impressed with how their appliances easily accommodate varying cooking styles and personal preferences in the kitchen.
My Wolf Microwave Oven is also hidden from view in the larger island. This has been a great asset to my kitchen. In addition to being a powerful appliance it also houses a special vapor and moisture detecting device. As the food heats up, the sensor automatically adjusts the cooking times and power level for what is inside. The technology takes into consideration the amount of food being heated as well. In other words, it’s a “smart” microwave.
In our home we also have a kitchen in our downstairs recreation room. This is where my kids hang out with their friends, play foosball, darts, air hockey, video games and just act like boys. It’s their area.
This kitchen has a second Wolf Microwave Oven, (the same as the one in my main kitchen) and an undercounter Sub-Zero Refrigerator/Freezer. An updated version of the refrigerator/freezer is now available, which is where the link will take you. The microwave and refrigerator/freezer were easily integrated into a cabinet that sit on top of each other and match the rest of the cabinetry in the kitchen.
You can easily see the roominess of the Wolf Microwave Oven, something that comes in handy quite often around here.
My family loves having an ice maker in the refrigerator/freezer downstairs. It sure beats going back upstairs when we need some ice. This refrigerator is always stocked with an array of drinks, something a bunch of teenagers seem to love.
I hope you have enjoyed taking a peak into my kitchen. Next time I’ll show you all the custom storage options behind all those cabinet doors. I know you’ll be waiting with bated breath.

I voted for No. 7, predominately white with a black top on the center island (although I don’t care for the seats shown at the island). I love white in the kitchen, and this seems like a good use of the space. BUT, if someone wants to give me a kitchen makeover, I promise not to be too picky!
Mary Beth Elderton says
I didn’t see a title of the kitchen I voted for–lots of warmer woods as opposed to some of the “sleeker” more modern designs. While I love the sleek modern looks, I prefer my own kitchen to be warmer, fewer lines.

I do so wish I could vote for your kitchen Cathy – it looks amazing!!! But since I cannot – I have voted for one on the FB page that is unpainted wood cabinets – my top choice!! And I really can’t wait to hear all about your cabinets!!! Thanks for the give-away!!
CabinGirl says
Kind of hard to say which one as they aren’t numbered but I believe it was #46, beautiful natural wood island with cream colored cabinets and a stone wall
John Dowdy says
I voted for the one with the blue screens up on the ceiling. Have no idea what they are, but I liked the design of the kitchen with the stove in close proximity to the sink where you will be doing all the prepping. Loved the Wolf refrigerator and full height wine storage at the end of the kitchen.
Barbara says
I liked #22 the best, but most of them are really nice. I really, really like yours! A new kitchen would be inspiring and I may never leave it, except to visit my sewing room!
Cassidy says
I really liked all of them, but ultimately chose the last one, as it’s the one I would want with wood and tile.
Angel Eicher says
No name, but it was the one with wood rafters and huge granite island. Gorgeous!

I really like your kitchen! I voted for the wood kitchen and the white kitchens for the top 5 they asked for. I like the comfortable, family oriented close knit, organized kitchens. My favorite was the kitchen with white cabinets, hardwood floors and a wood island. It was striking yet felt warm and somewhat traditional. I could see my family gathering there!
Noelle says
I picked the one that has white custom cabinets with a oval table in front of island with steel blues in fabrics on chairs shades and a bench at one side of the table. The refrigerator is behind custom cabinets. I like that a lot. The look is clean and relaxing with that tone of blue. I also like how big the island is!
Chad Atwell says
I like #3
Mary Clark says
I voted for photo #14 because I liked the bar area but the open look and roominess but plenty of storage and work space to the kitchen. Just liked the whole look of it.
Tracy Caldwell says
I voted for #36 down the list, the cabinets look like bamboo and several windows look out onto talll sparse pine trees, the inside and outside blend so well together, I love this look.
Sabrina says
I voted for the one with the light green tiles on the left wall. I love that pop of color. The mix with the wood. It seems very natural and serene. The view helps a bit too!

Entries not named or numbered…my favorite has some natural cabinets and some white. There are two light globes hanging down over the island. Also has a stone wall.
Susan Maggy says
Quite honestly, there wasn’t one there that I really liked. Yours would be my dream kitchen, from the wood to the appliances. I didn’t notice a number, but it was the last one on the list. It had more of the wood and design that I like.
Cathy says
I have no clue which one it was other then it was 3rd or 4th row from bottom. wooden floors.. two bulb lights hanging and white cabinets. it looked cozy..
Leslie Gaunt says
I voted for the one on the right, second row from the bottom. I like the island with the sink, and that the kitchen isn’t completely separated from what looks like a living room.
Susan Christy says
#5? I don’t see where the entries are named or numbered (tried Chrome, IE & Firefox) but it’s the 2nd one on the 2nd row with the 3 red chairs in the foreground. Very mid-century & that is the look I like.
Stephanie says
I chose the kitchen with one aqua colored chair (had a row of white chairs, and 1 blue chair). It really popped out at me. I loved the modern decor, the overhead storage, and the airy, open layout. It was my perfect kitchen. Everything was perfect!
Heather Spooner says
I voted for #22. I love the window seat, the island stovetop, and the cabinetry. Thanks for the giveaway!
Michelle M says
I voted for the 15th one down (had the maple looking island with two globe pendant lights hanging down and whitewashed cabinetry elsewhere). I would have absolutely voted for yours over any of these choices though. Your kitchen is unbelievable and I think I drooled all over my laptop from that Wolf range alone. : ) Beautiful work, Cathy!

I voted for #18, it had lots of natural light, and the stone wall gave it an outdoorsy feel.
Rachael M says
I voted for the kitchen with the wood carved cabinets. There are a few things I would have styled differently but overall, I love the warm wood tones and the feeling of home I get when I see the picture. It also goes really well with the green outdoors it’s surrounded by!
Cheryl Newton says
I voted for No. 8 because it has a ladder (I’m short, so I regularly find myself dragging over a dining chair to reach stuff up high) and also I love the bar stools at the island. (I’m currently in the market for counter stools to match the table that’s been sitting in its box for more than a year now.)
Jean (Lemons and Anchovies) says
I liked so many of the designs but I had three that I kept going back to. The dark counters with the open, airy layouts really had me wishing I had a bigger kitchen.
Yours is absolutely gorgeous–thanks so much for allowing us a peek! Oh, to have the space to have all those beautiful appliances. It would be a treat to cook in your kitchen every single day. đŸ™‚
Shawn says

Kathy says
I didn’t see a number but the one I liked best had a mix of white cabinets and countertops with a large white hood over the range. I chose this one because if the kitchen is the heart of the home, this one was the best mix of modern with a sense of warm and cozy. I felt “at home” looking at this design.
Alysha Stehly says

Yours would be my favorite, but since that is not an option I chose #48 (I think thats the number) it has the stove top on top of the island. I really like that option b/c it allows the cook to be involved with everything going on in the kitchen unlike most stoves that face a wall. Plus, the cook then has all the space on the island for their mise en place!
Danae says

Lynda Del says
Can’t figure out the number or design name, but I absolutely adore the kitchen with the layout that creates great use of a small kitchen space from floor to ceiling and looks very practical as shown with the movable ladder which is great for a short person like myself. I also love the modern and urban look of it particularly the exposed brick and mortar as part of the cabinetry and the marble top island that also has the seating area. I want this kitchen!!

I voted for my top 5. I liked ones that had more modern appearances (the one with the see thru fridge door was pretty innovative) and also welcomed lots of light.

Ugh, Now that I loved I can tell you what number it was. But it was a white kitchen with 4 stools at the countr and two large lights over the island. I liked this because it seems that when we host a party or our dinner club, everyone gathers around our penisula. I wish it was an isand so I could stand before our guest and prepare whatever I need to an not feel left out of the conversation.

I don’t know the name of the design I voted for, but it was lovely with the hard wood floors, matching hard wood cabinets, the island, and soft lighting and off-white paint. Felt homey and comfortable, for a kitchen, and a kitchen I would want to be in all the time.

It would be easier to tell which one we voted for if they had labels! But the one I voted for is mostly a white kitchen. Main sink on the right, a large island with a prep sink in it, and then the cooking center on the far left. I actually voted for five kitchens instead of just one as they all brought to the idea-zone something unique that stood out for me…but by far my favorite of the five is the one that had the brown ornate refrigerator with the white carved venta-hood with the five chairs sitting around the huge marble island with the dining room in the background off to the left (with brown beams in the ceiling). I have a huge family and somehow we always manage to stay in the kitchen…what better way then to stay in luxury while admiring all the appliances that made the memories perfect! Thanks for the opportunity to share.

Off topic, but I absolutely love your kitchen! You’ve inspired me. Hope you enjoy it!

I could not go to their web site because I suddenly sank into the furthest depths of green eyed jealousy I do believe I have ever felt ….I’m as easy to please and backwoods country as they come, I will attempt any thing when it comes to cooking but I don’t even have kitchen cabinet doors I still have curtains I do not have an electric dishwasher and never have…I was soooooooooo unbelievably thrilled when we got a fridge few years back with an ice maker so please understand my complete lack of ability to go see more of what I can not and more than likely will never have đŸ™‚ do you feel sorry for me yet???? Oh I do look for your wine here on the east coast (Georgia) but I have not seen it yet. Love and green eyed hugs peach!
