It never ceases to amaze me how authentic this cake turns out when it comes to resembling a real cat box. I hope your own cat box is a tad tidier than my culinary recreation.

The Purr-fect Way to Celebrate Your Cat’s Special Day
If you’re a cat lover, you know that your feline friend deserves something extra special on their birthday. After all, they bring so much joy and companionship into your life. So why not go all out and throw a party that will make their tail sway with excitement? Or not.
One unique and whimsical idea to celebrate your cat’s special day is by making this Kitty Litter Cake. Now, before you cringe at the thought of serving a cake that looks like a litter box, hear me out. This cake is not for your cat to eat, but rather to serve as a hilarious and memorable centerpiece for your cat-themed party.
Imagine the look on your cat’s (and friend’s) face when they see a cake that looks just like a litter box. They may be confused at first, but once they realize it’s all in good fun, they’ll surely appreciate the effort you put into it.
As far as the party itself, invite your friends over for a cat-themed extravaganza. Decorate your home with cat-inspired decorations, from paw-print balloons to cat-shaped confetti. Set up a photo booth area where guests can take pictures with your beloved feline friend.
And speaking of your cat, make sure they are the star of the show. Dress them up in a cute party hat or a fancy bowtie. Let them strut their stuff and bask in the attention from your friends. After all, it’s their special day, and they deserve to be treated like royalty.
As the party progresses, it’s time for the grand finale – the Kitty Litter Cake. This cake is made to look like a litter box, complete with crumbled chocolate cookies resembling “litter” and cleverly placed candy “poop.” It may sound unappetizing, but rest assured, it’s all made with delicious ingredients that will satisfy your human guests’ sweet tooth.
As your guests marvel and are simultaneously grossed out with the creative masterpiece before them, you can regale them with the story of how this quirky tradition came to be. Maybe share anecdotes about your cat’s mischievous adventures and funny quirks.
And don’t forget to capture these moments on camera. Take plenty of photos and videos to commemorate this special occasion. You can create a scrapbook or a digital album to look back on and cherish for years to come.
So, if you’re looking for a way to celebrate your cat’s special day that is both unique and unforgettable, consider throwing a cat-themed party with a Kitty Litter Cake as the centerpiece. It’s a celebration your cat (and your guests) won’t soon forget!
I also hope you know I’m kidding with all of this! Sadly we all know your cat could care less if you threw them a party! Make this cake anyway.

Whether you’re hosting a spooky soirée or simply want to surprise your family, this cake is sure to make a lasting impression. The full, printable recipe can be found at the end of this post.
Ingredients and Their Roles:

- White Cake Mix: The white cake mix complements the German chocolate flavor with a lighter, vanilla-infused cake that balances the flavors.
- Instant Vanilla Pudding: Adding moisture and creaminess, instant vanilla pudding is the secret to achieving the cake’s delectable texture, while holding all the ingredients together.
- Vanilla Sandwich Cookies: These cookies play a dual role in the recipe. Some are crushed to resemble the appearance of kitty litter, while others are used for their crunch.
- Green Food Coloring: A touch of food coloring is used to tint the crushed cookies, creating an authentic “litter” appearance.
- Tootsie Rolls: When softened and shaped, these iconic candies become the playful “poop” elements in the Kitty Litter Cake.
- Brand New Kitty Litter Box: This serving vessel adds a humorous touch to the dessert’s presentation, enhancing the Halloween theme.
- Brand New Pooper Scooper: An amusing serving utensil that adds an interactive element to the experience, making it a memorable and fun dessert to serve.

Ingredients
Kitty Litter Cake Ingredients:
- 1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix + ingredients on the box to make the cake
- 1 box White Cake Mix + ingredients on the box to make the cake
- 2 (3.5 oz.) packages instant vanilla pudding mix + ingredients on the box to make the pudding

Instructions
How to Make Kitty Litter Cake:
- Preheat your oven to the temperature specified in the cake package directions.
- Prepare both the white and German chocolate cakes and instant vanilla pudding as per the instructions provided on their respective packages. Follow all ingredient requirements specified in those packages. (The appearance and pan size of the cakes are not crucial, as they will be crumbled together later.)1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix, 1 box White Cake Mix, 2 (3.5 oz.) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
- In a food processor, crumble vanilla sandwich cookies in small batches. Take 1/4 cup of the crumbs and combine them with green food coloring using your hands, creating flecks of color within the crumbs. Set this mixture aside.12 ounces vanilla sandwich cookies, 5 drops green food coloring
- Once the cakes have cooled to room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Mix in half of the remaining cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding, ensuring the cake becomes moist.
- Transfer the cake mixture into the kitty litter box. Place half of the unwrapped Tootsie Rolls in a microwave-safe dish and heat for approximately 12 seconds or until they soften. Shape the ends of the Tootsie Rolls to eliminate bluntness and give them a slight curve. Randomly bury the Tootsie Rolls within the cake mixture, then sprinkle the cake with the remaining half of the remaining cookie crumbs. Finally, generously sprinkle the green-flecked cookie crumbs over the top.16 Tootsie Roll candies
- Microwave the remaining Tootsie Rolls and strategically position them atop the cake mixture. Remember to drape a few over the sides for the complete, repulsive and gross effect. Refrigerate until you're ready to serve.
- Serve each guest individually using the pooper scooper for a perfectly grotesque Halloween dessert experience.

The microwaved tootsie rolls are spookier than your decorations. Ewww!

I always get a little too grossed out by kitty litter cake, although yours is fantastically done.
(FYI: Along these lines, I make a dirt cake in a clean flower pot at Christmas time, stick a silk poinsettia in it, and give it to the hostess as our gift when we attend a gathering. The hostesses who’ve never seen it before always mumble a thank you and set it far to the side. LOL Then they have their mouths open when I quietly retrieve it, stick a serving spoon it it, put some on my plate, and start eating. Always a great laugh! With your repertoire, you are probably already familiar with it.)
Louise says
You bring me back to my inner child. And, while location, location, location is the real estate mantra … presentation, presentation, presentation makes this dish a delightful party pooper delight!

I made this for my neighbors 14 birthday at first she said is this a joke not believing it was a real cake. I didn’t use the tootsie rolls instead I took milky way minis and mashed and then rolled them into little logs and they looked more like poop than tootsie roll do. her mom was laughing and gagging at the same time. but wanted the recipe.
Prof. Bleen says
Brava on the Kitty Litter Cake! Have you seen the recipe that usually appears under the name of “Little Gator’s Deep Sh*t Cookies”? Your recipe is a big improvement: the entire thing is edible, whereas Little Gator’s Cookies are served on a bed of Grape Nuts—highly realistic, but not anything people want to eat with cookies. However, if you don’t mind a little extra work, I recommend substituting the cookie part of Little Gator’s (basically chocolate/gingerbread cookie mix rolled up to look like cat turds) for the Tootsie Rolls in your recipe. The combination would be unbeatable.
Gina says
I can’t wait to take this to our Thanksgiving pot luck dinner at work. I want to take it anonymous, at first, just to see who will actually eat it 🙂 Ha! Ha!
Peter says

I have SO got to pitch this to Con-com. It’s a well-known fact that many a sci-fi fan is owned by a cat, and it takes a certain sense of (black, twisted) humor to actually sign up to run a convention. This’ll go over great!
Christina says
OMG My mom is born on Halloween and she loves cats so you know what kind of cake shes gettin this year, its gross but COOL gross!! And my 9yr old son will LOVE it.
BethieofVA says

I don’t know why a few people say they refuse to eat this—it’s just cake with tootsie rolls on top, just presented VERY differently! Hahaha C’mon people! Break out of normality!
I think this is a genius way to make this dessert–much more creative than the typical dirt worm cupcake =)

I’ve been wanting to make one of these for years. I found the perfect opportunity: my husband’s birthday, since he always takes care of the litterbox. I’ve seen this same recipe around but I really appreciated your helpful photos. It’s so easy because nothing has to look just right, and it’s fun to crumble up cakes and sculpt kitty turds out of warm Tootsie Rolls. I love how it cane out! Hope my husband likes it as much as I do… 😉
Dawn J. says
