Hey everyone. How’s your summer going?
Ours?
Not so good.
No snorkeling.
No tube-ing.
The pool algae is gone. The spider’s have moved in.
It will take three more days to fill it back up. Insert crying here.

ACK!!!!!! You should put a warning if you’re going to show pictures of giant face eating spiders!!!!!!
Mental P Mama says
Those hooligans look like they’re having fun anyway…
Patricia Scarpin says
Poor boys!
They look so cute.
Harmony says
Your boys are gorgeous!…what cutie butts. That is a long time to have to wait for the pool to fill…sorry.
The picture of the spider made me choke on my toast…*shudder* I hate spiders!
Beckynsc says
I have been fighting algae all summer. Finally got the GREEN gone, but it’s still cloudy. I’m ready to drain it and give up on this summer.
threeundertwo says
Cool shades! I hope that spider was magnified a bunch because it gave me the heebie jeebies.
Steph says
Just the reason to throw a pool party!
Mary Beth says
Take back the pool from the spiders! We’ve never had a pool so we haven’t run into any of these problems yet. Good luck with it!
Queen of Planet Hotflash says
Buy a cheapo blow up pool and sit in it with a glass of wine.
The pool will be so nice when filled which is 3 days better than 3 months. I agree about pool party( let everyone else cook though too hot!!) π
Maureen says
Sorry about the pool, but I agree, it will be a great excuse for a pool party!
Looks like your hooligans are making the best of the situation.
Fun House Jennifer says
Your boys are so cute!! Just think how nice and clean and inviting the pool will be when it’s ready!!!
P.S. I keep forgetting to tell you that we made the Lemoncello drinks over the w/e and we LOVED them! It’s my new fave drink!!
leslie says
Ok for real….that spider looks like it could kill you with one strike!ewwwww
jennielynn says
Oh ugh! I feel so bad for you all! Nothing worse than having a pool you can’t use.
Marcy says
AWWW , that space is huge! Your poor little hooligans. Were they wondering why they had to put their suits on and get pool toys? lol.
Ick to the spider, hope you get it back soon!
Trisha says
It will be worth the wait! In the meantime – haul out the sprinklers!
Mama Goose says
Man that spider totally creeped me out!
I feel for you and the hooligans! Keep cool!
sharon says
eek, I think I just got the heebie jeebies from that spider. Hope you guys stay cool. It’ll be back in action in no time.
Teri says
Ick… hate…. spiders! But your hooligans make me so sad and laugh at the same time! So funny with their pool gear! Maybe you have a local pool to take them to for a few days??? Slip and slide??? I’m in San Rafael now but still don’t think that’s close enough to invite you over to swim in ours! Awhttp://www... even a few days seems like a million!
Alisa says
It could be worse. The skateboarders could move in. Then you’d never get that pool filled. Those poor pool-less children of yours. Something should be done…
TSannie/annbb says
What a time not to have your pool! I hear it’s unusually hot in CA right now. But the photo op being pooless created was well worth not having it, I do believe!
Debbie in CA : ) says
It’s gonna be so great when … : ) Today we see blue skies! HOORAY! Maybe we can dip into our pool again and not die of lung poisoning! It’s been bad. As an aside, I have 14 holes in my backyard right now … awaiting a new deck. Wish it were just 3 days away. [Insert crying plus a seriously pouting lip — waaaah!]
Dragon says
Maybe its just me but do you think a snorkel and rubber tube are necessary in an empty pool? LOL π
Queen of Planet Hotflash says
PPPSSSSTTTT wander over to my place there is something there for you π
jancd says
We had our pool resurfaced and retiled last summer. Long wait. This year it is used every day. Hot, hot, hot here in Houston. No algea yet. Tired the new potatoe recipe the other night. I told my husband we were having roasted potatoes and salad. He thought I said, “Roast and potatoes and salad.” He was a little disappointed there no meat, but who needs meat when you have these great potatoes? Thanks for the recipe.
Clumbsy Cookie says
Poor kids… Send them over my way, we have the beach here!
ALF says
Doesn’t look like quite as much fun without water. 3 days to fill it up?!? Your poor water bill.
Egghead says
It always amazes me to see how deep the pools are when the water is all out. I always had visions of not paying attention and falling in and splatting to the bottom. Nice huh?
Mark Salinas says
Ahhh…the imagination of the child. Who needs water? π
gorillabuns says
BUT!!! Your boys are pretty darn cute!
Asthmagirl says
The Hooligans are adorable as always! And they look like they enjoy the pool either way!
Paula says
This kind of messes with the pool party concept! Hey, at least the boys can play in the deep end unsupervised! Um, how does one empty a pool? Bet the land octopus’s will crawl away when the wet stuff once again fills the borders!
Lisa says
Those are utterly fabulous photos of your boys! And the spider too. High ick factor, with the spider, but they are so cool to look at if they stay still.
Jenni in KS says
Those photos of your boys in the empty pool are so sad–almost heartbreaking. You lured them out there in their swimming trunks and taunted them by making them get in the empty pool just for the sake of posting those pictures on your blog. You mean mommy you! Sounds like just the sort of thing I would do, LOL!
My girls (16 and 11 1/2 going on 21) have suddenly become much more girlie this summer and the pond in front of our house is “gross” and “yucky” now. It’s pretty clean for a pond since the water comes from our water source heat pump and it’s constantly being fed fresh, cool water as long as the air conditioning (or heat) is running. The youngest has begged me to take her to the pool in our small town, but if you read Rechelle’s post about the pool, you know why I haven’t. So, instead, they lay out tanning themselves on some cheap rafts and try to stay as far away from the muddy bottom of the pond as they can.
Erin says
Waht kind of spider is that???!!! We have nothing that scarey looking in Ohio! OK, we do have the brown recluse, but they are little and you can hardley see them. What is that?!
Lennie says
Our pool could win the gross award this year; it’s black. Or green-black, to be more accurate. The reason? The filter is toast; we bought a new one today. Frost damage did the old one in, the perils of living in a climate that has such bad winters. So now the old one has to be hauled out and that’s going to be one heavy job. Your pool looks so scrubbed-down clean; I envy that as soon as you have water, you’ll be back up and running again. But man, that spider! That’s one bad-ass creature!
The Casual Perfectionist says
I say get those two some skateboards and add some excitement to your day! π
Bonbon Oiseau says
nice photos! good for skateboarding though!
kimberleyblue says
ack! you should’ve put a warning on the top of that post for all us arachnophobes!
this post is pretty sad – those photos are pitiful! but at least it’s only three days before you guys can dive back in.
Barbie with a T says
Those are the coolest sunglasses ever! If you don’t mind, I stole that picture and put it on my desktop for the day. I live at the beach, so anything regarding water and swimming is foremost on my mind daily.
Liz C. says
Very cute and very funny, but you’re still not going to talk me out of a pool, lol.
Spiders, huh? Yuck!
Lori says
It’s been so hot here, I feel your pain!
medstudentwife says
There is water in your pool (pretend).. the pictures of your boys could almost make you believe that the water is so clear (and they are non-buoyant)…
And the spider is a “boat” spider.
Actually – the pictures of your boys in their pool gear is really kwel !!! I like the composition.
But that spider picture…I HATE MOST SPIDERS AND THIS ONE IS GROSS !!!!
Coast Rat says
Is that water invisible? Wow! Neat!
Susan at Sticky,Gooey,Creamy,Chewy says
I’m feeling your pain, Cathy! I’ve been there, done that too. I can’t help chuckling at your post, though. Your “models” are adorable!
christine says
Oh my. But the boys look like they’re having fun in the meantime. Maybe you could fill the tub with a sprinkle attachment on the hose. I betcha the boys would get a kick out of that for a while. I’m afraid the spiders wouldn’t appreciate it as much. But they’re a humorless bunch.
Elle says
YES! Now I’ve got the creepy crawlies….
Coffee Bean says
Uh… I’m not crying you any rivers. Can I move in with you in three days?
grace says
welcome to my world. actually, there’s no comparison because, although it’s true that i have no pool, it’s also true that the temperatures are much milder here. so, i’ll give you my sympathy. π
meanwhile, is your kiddo holding his breath in the snorkeling pic? too cute.
Tipper says
Such a cute post! Neat way to take advantage of your algae problem! And the hooligans are adorable as always!
Flea says
Skateboards, mom! They need skateboards and helmets and knee and elbow pads! What fun!
HRH says
I have come across your name on three different blogs today so (of course) I had to come check it out. The food porn is WOW and now I need a serious carb fix. AND this made me laugh out loud. THANKS!!!!
imbeingheldhostage says
Terribly funny post, but not so much so (funny) for those adorable boys π
Great photos– the first ones look like they’re in a photo studio — ooh, maybe you could turn the pool into a studio!
Your Spud contest looks like a delicious success!
Wine Tasting Guy says
Cathy my dear, this Manhattan resident will not shed one tear for you and your pool. I wish I had such problems!!!
Enjoy the nice new clean water & have me in mind while you’re floating on the water under the beautiful Cali sky!!
Tash Oysterblogger says
this is my all time favorite post
You have a very dry sense of humor.

I know it’s rough without it, but what a photo opportunity! LOVE the one with snorkels!
