Party in the City Where the Heat is On

So, I MIGHT have mentioned on Facebook yesterday that this will be my home for oh, let’s see…five days this month!  I am proudly attending Mom 2.0 Summit at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne in Miami. Cue Will Smith music now!  “Party in the city where the heat is on…all night on the beach till the break of dawn…welcome to Miami…bienvenido a Miami” Yep, I’m going to be singin’ it ALL month!!

I am proudly being sponsored by Johnsonville Kitchens to attend this over-the-top event.  Yes, they are fully picking up the tab to send me here as a brand ambassador and as one of Johnsonville’s Delicious Dish Bloggers.  Thank you Johnsonville, because of you, I get to attend this amazing conference with so many like minded bloggers; all while soaking up marketing and media knowledge from some great speakers.  Best of all, I will be meeting folks who have been only virtual friends up until now!! Yahoo. That is seriously the best part of all these conferences…the networking.

Thank you Johnsonville for this opportunity.  You have no idea how much I have needed to get away from this rain in Oregon.  Ugh.

Can you see me doing the backstroke in this pool? I will be.

We have also decided to make this an extended family vacation and will be spending another 5 days in the Florida Keys…I might have died and gone to heaven…like seriously.  I need a tan…fast. And liposuction.

I think the biggest stressor is what to wear to all these amazing parties that have been planned for us. There is the White Sand White Party at the Dune Oceanfront Lodge…I guess all white will be appropriate. And then brace yourself…the Saturday Night party is at one of the most most photographed homes in the U.S….the Versace Mansion in South Beach. I’m dying. What the heck do you wear to the Versace Mansion?

Help me folks! I need fashion advice, I need travel advice…I want restaurant recommendations and sightseeing ideas.  I’m counting on you….this is going to be an amazing adventure.  For all of us.  Please stay tuned.

Lot of sundresses, comfortable shoes, and please, no black stockings! For formal events, simple is best. I am going to enjoy following this trip vicariously and so please keep us updated. (if you have time, of course).
    Fabulous hotel!!

Super jealous. We used to have a house on Key Biscayne and it is beautiful. The slogan for Key Biscayne is “Paradise Found” and it is so true. Definitely have Cuban food….and a lot of it (ropa vieja, Cuban sandwiches, fried pork, Cuban coffee). A lot of the restaurants have changed but Sir Pizza on the island was always a favorite. The best Cuban restaurant in Miami is Versailles on 8th Street in Little Havana. Also, go to Coconut Grove. Enjoy!

You are going to love the Versace Mansion. Anything Victorian would be appropriate. It is a gorgeous place and they make the most amazing Quiche I have ever eaten. Have fun!

What an amazing vacation! You definitely need to have some cuban food – cuban sandwiches are my favorite sandwich. Joe’s stone crab is the ultimate Miami experience. link to joesstonecrab.com Also I’ve never been but Michael’s Genuine (link to michaelsgenuine.com) was featured on FN a bunch of times and the menu looks amazing.
While you are in the Keys you have to have a slice of frozen key lime pie dipped in chocolate on a stick! link to keylimeshop.com

I can’t wait to read about your trip – it’s going to be amazing! Enjoy!

If you’re going to Key West, take the seaplane to the Dry Tortugas National Park. Reserve your seats at least a week in advance. You won’t regret it. It’s breathtaking!

  10. Florida has been brutally hot this month. I’m hoping it cools off a bit for your trip, but if you’re not from here, you’ll still consider it ridiculously hot and humid. Pack accordingly! Extra clothes in case you sweat through the first set of the day haha.

Flip-flops are a must. You wear them practically everyday in this state. Pack multiple shorts as well. No need to wear fancy clothing when you’re just wandering and enjoying the sites. You can always get dressed up for your fancy parties!

If you get the chance, and you’re in the mood for a little something different for your pizza, try to find an Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. It originated in Fort Lauderdale but I believe they’ve opened a location in Miami. The crust is different in that it’s burnt in their coal fire oven but it’s very tasty! The meatball pizza is fabulous though my parents looove the tomato mozzarella pizza.

If you happen upon Dania beach, go to Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor! Don’t get there too late because on Saturdays the line to get in can get loooong. Everything there is delicious and the desserts are very sharable! And at Jaxson’s, it’s all about the desserts. I’ve never had real food there. It has a old time candy shop in the front as well.

I wish I could give you Miami specific restaurants but I was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale!

    Enjoy Miami and the Keys!

Definitely drive from miami to key west, save your lunch for Chef Joseph’s delicious food at Robbies In islamorda. Try cracked Conch (conk) they have way more meet than the conch fritters. In Key west go to the Conch Republic Seafood company and get the stone crabs if they have them and a rum runner before sunset and chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick! On your way back stop in Marathon at the Marathon seafood company, and order some lunch! fresh caught food!

    Robbies-cracked conch and anything
    Rum Runner
    Stone Crabs
    Marathon Seafood Company

    don’t miss those things!
