Okay, here is my pick for Super Bowl wings this year. This recipe intrigued me for several reasons.
I loved the idea of combining pineapple juice and soy sauce as a marinade and then sprinkling the chicken with lemon gelatin seemed like a fantastic idea. Adding the poppy seeds for a finishing, textural touch was also something different and intriguing.
The final result was very yummy! And who needs beer on Super Bowl Sunday as these wings are rockin’ when paired with our Noble Pig Pinot Gris. The crisp, citrusy flavors of our Pinot Gris play nicely with this dish. Very nicely.
Preheat the oven to 350o. In a large bowl, combine the pineapple juice and soy sauce. Add the wings and let marinate for 15 minutes.
On a foil-lined rimmed baking sheet, arrange the wings in a single layer. Pour 1/2 cup of the marinade over the wings, then sprinkle with half of the gelatin; bake for 30 minutes.
Flip and sprinkle with the remaining gelatin and the poppy seeds, then bake until browned, about 30 minutes.
You will love these.

I have to try these đŸ™‚ We love wings !! Trouble is, chicken, esp. parts like wings are soooooo expensive up our way.
I may try this idea on chicken or turkey thighs đŸ™‚

That looks so so so good!

Huh. The pineapple & soy sound delicious… but the lemon gelatin threw me for a loop at first. Nonetheless, they sound delicious — and they’re perfect man food!
Shrinkella says
Wow, this looks amazing. I have never seen anything quite like it with the gelatin. I will have to try it soon!

I have never seen anything like this gelatin addition. It must make the wings like the classic sticky kind, but with less effort. We like and eat a lot of chicken wings so this might be the next big thing in our house.

I absolutely have to try this! Perfect for Sundays football game đŸ™‚

I already do love them! Yummy!
Katie says
What does the gelatin do? I’d probably make these without, since it’s not an ingredient I usually have on hand and I was wondering if it would change the flavour much?
Noble Pig says
Without the lemon gelatin, you won’t get the crunchy-lemony crust, which is pretty much what this recipe is about.

I have my sights on the Super Bowl party this year. I’m already thinking of what I could bring to this year’s. Maybe some wings along with dessert? Very clver with the lemon Jello.
I have a hubby who is feeling very positive about the Jets win last night. I guess that’s why I’m so SB focused right now.

What do you think about the wings being marinated overnight? Or do you think it would break down the crunchy jello effect?
They look absolutely wonderful!!

I love chicken wings of pretty much any flavor…but lemon gelatin? Cool!

These look deliciously yummmy… I must try asap
Tom says
How long do you think you can let these sit in the marinade? I’d like to do them longer (in advance) but know the acid in the juice and the salt in the soy might start breaking down the meat after too long. Thank you!
Michelle says
I made these last night for the game, and everyone LOVED them. They actually preferred these rather than the traditional wings đŸ™‚

I love this recipe and have made it a dozen times already. My family does not like meat with bones, so I use tenders. I have to increase the recipe every time because the men want leftovers and they eat everything the first time around!
I have started using teriyaki instead of soy sauce and it seems to better compliment the pineapple juice. I also boil the left over liquid to serve!
