Just Click Your Heels Three Times

Where I live in California, a rainbow is a rare occurrence in my daily life.  We just don't get enough rain.

In Oregon, rainbows are a dime a dozen, appearing out of nowhere as the weather changes instantaneously from thunder showers to sunny skies.

Yesterday, in Oregon, this rainbow appeared almost right above me, both ends touching down on our developing property.  It was amazingly beautiful.

I couldn't help thinking this must be a sign of good luck somewhere.

Of course the hooligans immediately went searching for a pot of gold.

Little do they know, I've already found it and they were standing on it.

Cathy, Cathy!!! Did you notice it is a double rainbow! That’s not a trick of your camera, we get double rainbows often. Look above the brightly colored rainbow, and you’ll see the faint colors of a second one! Ah, they always make me smile, especially these ones that show all the colors! Welcome home to Oregon, Cathy! It’s good to have you here!

The colors are awesome. You truly have found a pot of gold.

That’s so beautiful! We had a lovely one the other day in a very grey sky but it lifted my spirits so much to see it!

  4. Yes! You are living on and building your dreams on your pot of gold !Your new winery and home are in the only other place I would desire to live other than here in WA.Fortunately, you’re close enough that when you open for business and tours we can drive on down and rejoice in your good fortune ! ( and ours too !)

  5. How cool. I’ve only seen a dozen or so rainbows in RI. One like yours that stretched across the sky. I remember people stopping on the side of the road to get out of their cars to see it. Amazing.

Great photo! I just love a double rainbow. When we were searching for a place to live here in PA, we were always coming across double rainbows. I forgot that you all are still in the midst of fall colors back home.

  7. LOL! I love it: the little hooligans went searching for a pot of gold. You’re hilarious. I bet you’re an awesome mom.

BEAUTIFUL! Have you seen a double one yet? They are awesome. We get rainbows often here in the Adirondack area.

I have left you an award :)

Gorgeous! I could sit with my chin in my hand and a dreamy smile on my face all day long, staring at that lovely sight. You are indeed standing on your pot of gold, Cathy, congrats!

    Beautiful rainbow, Cathy!
To me…a rainbow is God’s way of telling me everything will be okay.

  17. How beautiful! You know…you should have that made into a print and frame it then hang it up in your home when this is all said and done. I think that would be a very cool way to remember the journey that lead you there.

  18. Beautiful pot o gold you got there.

  19. Erin 25

This is breathtaking! I love rainbows. It’s been awhile since I saw a good one. :)

  20. annbb 26

I’d take that as a very good omen of very good things to come! Just beautiful!

  21. Wow Cathy, that is so beautiful! Definitely a sign of good luck!!

  24. ELRA 31

    Gorgeous, Cathy
I saw rainbow earlier this week as well. It was really something, but I didn’t take any photo! Too bad.

  25. Louise 32

There’s nothing like a rainbow to make my heart flutter!

  26. Unbelievable rainbow – you live in a magical spot !

  27. Greg 35

    Hey Cathy,

Nice rainbow, and the double! The colors on a double rainbow go in the reverse order – red on the inside, purple on the outside :)

  28. Trisha 36

What an absolutely beautiful picture! I think I would print this out and frame it if I were you!

  29. Teri 37

Simply…. beautiful! I love the puffy clouds against the blue sky.

  30. Alisa 38

Gorgeous. Like I needed another reason to be jealous of you? Rainbows? Sheesh. Lucky girl.

  31. Wow! That is one of the most gorgeous rainbow shots I’ve seen! You even got a double rainbow. All the fall foliage and the blue, blue sky–it’s stunning. It’s like the whole earth and sky are rejoicing and letting it show by breaking out in such vivid color. Thank you for sharing it.

  32. Amber 40

You got a double rainbow! Double blessings.
Isn’t miraculous when you see it touch the ground? That has only happened to me once in New Mexico. It was very vivid and very close and I got teary eyed.
The colors of the grasses and bushes are beautiful in your photo.

  33. OMG–that’s one of the best rainbow pics ever!! You are so lucky to have seen it (and that you had a camera handy!!).

  34. Marjie 43

This is a beautiful picture, Cathy! Enjoy your pot of gold, and don’t tell the hooligans about it – they’ll be occupied for years searching!

  35. Kyddryn 44

    Sigh – loverly.

    Shade and Sweetwater,
    K

  36. The “hooligans” needed to follow the second rainbow to find the pot of gold and the leprechauns:D

  37. MissGreenTea 46

What a beautiful picture…the colors are absolutely breathtaking. This photo has made my Friday :)

  38. A promise painted in the sky — beautiful! A treasure underfoot — blessing!

  39. Kiki 48

I don’t care how many times you see them, rainbows are something to behold everytime! A beautiful picture, perhaps the pot of gold will be a lovely pinot gris…

  40. BEAUTIFUL!! That landscape is gorgeous as well. You are a very lucky lady, indeed!

  41. Brilliant. The picture and the realization that you’re standing on your treasure!

  42. This is lovely. Double Rainbow is that name of an ice cream place in The City. Don’t know if it’s still there, but it was in The Castro. I used to eat there all the time.
Sorry, tangent-ing (made that word up). Just a beautiful photo.
    Suz

  43. vanessa 53

    It’s beautiful!

And a bit funny that the hooligans went looking for a pot of gold. Reminds me of this video a friend shared with me yesterday:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nda_OSWeyn8

    A little ridiculous :)

  44. Tanya 54

What a gorgeous photograph! Simply breathtaking!

  45. Cheryl 55

You know the truth, Glenda. :)
    Lovely, lovely, lovely.

  46. I LOVE rainbows, and that one is a beauty!! Wow.

  47. Pam 57

Don’t you love Oregon? I am so grateful to live here. The picture is STUNNING!

  48. Biz 58

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing that rainbow!

  49. Lo 59

    I can’t help but think there’s promise in a rainbow… and a double, well that’s a more rare treat.

Hard to believe it’s just light and water, no?

  50. Egghead 60

Don’t you just love those rainbows? That picture is beautiful and you are right….those boys are standing on their pot of gold.

  51. megan 61

What a pot of gold you have there, just beautiful. I think you know my SIL. Mrs. Freeby as known by the kids. She called the other day to tell me about your site. I told her I was already a regular reader. We descussed your pumpkin cake with cider glaze. I still want that glaze. I’d gargle with that glaze. LOL Anyway, I have fun hearing about the property. Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving. :)

  52. A rainbow with both ends on your property. That has to be a good sign.

  53. Maria 63

A very good sign! I’ll never forget the time I saw a completely circular rainbow. I was flying from San Francisco to London, and I looked out the window, and I saw this circular rainbow below, with the shadow of the airplane I was flying in in the very center! I took it as a very good omen. Years later I read somewhere that that is the only circumstances in which you’ll ever see a rainbow in a full circle. Freaky!

  54. Melissa 64

    You’re standing on it WOOHOO!!!!

I love rainbows. I catch them rarely here in SoCal, but I always have a camera in my car for just that reason. ;) I have photos of a few good ones.

  55. That’s a really sweet post. :)

And a beautiful rainbow – lucky you, to see such things!

  56. Bunny 66

    Awe that’s beautiful! It’s a perfect picture.

  57. Off the charts incredible!! WOW just breathtaking…

  58. “Little do they know, I’ve already found it and they were standing on it.” -and THAT you have FOR THEM, Cathy. I sincerely hope that they eventually come to realize that some day. Beautiful shot!

  59. Monique 69

My goodness – that picture doesn’t even look real!!

Since moving from New York, I haven’t seen a rainbow at all. Thanks for the pic, it was a great memory.

My husband is originally from Oregon and we are planning on moving there by the New Year. Your picture makes me so excited to start the next chapter of my life in such a beautiful place.

    Monique

  60. ntsc 70

    What camera are you using?

You even caught the faint second bow above the main one.

I would agree they are standing on the pot of gold.

My Thanksgiving menu is up, with wine choices. Only Thanksgiving it self calls for a white and I went with a Chardonay because of the already purchased and planned Chardonay from Montecello.

The lamb is served with the wind it is cooked in. I chose mostly Austrailian because California wines in that price range may give me splitting headaches the next morning.

  61. grace 71

cathy, this is just a completely beautiful post. the picture is gorgeous, of course, but your words are so simply put and honest that they just brought a smile to my face. :)

  62. Flea 73

I’m so glad you’ve found your pot of gold. :)

  63. oh man that is so beautiful lucky you

  64. Liz C. 77

I’m always so thrilled to see a rainbow while everyone else is saying “Uh-huh. Yeah. Great.”

I think you’re right though. You’ve already found the pot of gold. Still, it’s good to have something to entertain the hoolligans.

    ;-)

  65. WOW! The colors in that picture are UNREAL. Rainbows really are pretty magical…

  66. Bobby 79

nice shot of the rainbow, and that salad looks fantastic!

  67. Sandie 80

Best Noble Pig post ever! You should use this story somehow when you start marketing all that fabulous wine you’re going to produce!
