Have You Ever...

Have you ever been in a hotel room and gone to bed, only to hear the screaming-terror of a child in the next room?

FOR HOURS...For Hours...For Hours........and hours...and what seems like forty days and forty nights...and sixty-two minutes....and 3 seconds...?  Have you?

The night before last, that was my night.

The Wild Boar and I laid in bed and could hear the bloody-murder curdling screams of a child in the next room.  No matter how sound-proof the walls, these were screams that penetrated all 2 x 4's.

We laid in bed saying, "Those poor people.  Thank God, it's not us.  Those poor people."

If you have kids, you've been there.  You know kids often can't sleep in a new bed, or they are sick or you forgot their blanket.  It's horrible, the kid screaming, you trying to quiet them in an unfamiliar place.  It's difficult and there is nothing worse.

So I woke up a zombie.  I was up half the night when I already went to bed late.

So imagine my reaction when I ran into the family as we exited our rooms and got on the elevator together.

They looked like zombie's too.  I felt bad for them.  I'm telling you, this kid would have worn down soldiers.

As we rode down to breakfast, the father looked at me and said, "What a night."  He must have been feeling guilty about his kid kicking our shared wall.  Yeah, that was fun.

Then he said, "Taking away the pacifier was not a good idea."

I almost died.  I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped open too.  Here I had felt sorry for them.  I am such a sucker.

Are you kidding me?  Who goes to a hotel and decides it's the place you take away the pacifier from your two year old!  For the first time!  Who?  Who does this?

Who, even in their most wildest, dementia-induced, moronic and maniacal parental moment, takes away a pacifier, from a two year old, at a hotel?  What would the purpose of this be?

I mean when you take away the pacifier, all that kid has to comfort themself is the familiarity of their own home, and even that isn't good enough.

So why, why, why would taking away a pacifier, AT A HOTEL, be a good move?

If I hadn't been so tired, I think I would have wrestled the guy to the ground.  However, I think I got one good eye-roll in.

Lack of common sense is one of my biggest pet peeves.
